NFL Preseason Rundown - Week 2 Recap (Fantasy Style)

Can you feel it? The Bruno Boys can, we can feel the excitement of the start of the NFL season and more importantly the start of the 2008 Fantasy Football season. It almost gives you goose bumps doesn’t it? As training camps all over the country wind down, the 2008 Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Cheat Sheets  continue to supply you with up to date information as you continue to prepare for your drafts and the upcoming season with a Preseason Round-up (fantasy style).

Breaking Down the Seattle Seahawks Running Back Situation

Coming out of week 2 of the preseason the Seattle Seahawks have not really answered any questions about their running back situation. Their top three backs are still all better suited being a team’s number two option. They were all equally average Saturday against  the Chicago Bears, in minimal duty. Julius Jones who appears to be the front-runner to be the teams starting back had 8 touches for 41 total yards, but lacked the drive to get the extra yard.  Maurice Morris had 6 touches for 23 total yards and TJ Duckett had 12 carries for 27 yards. Actually, it was rookie running back Justin Forsett that had the biggest day with 15 carries for 136 yards. Even after the big day Forsett doesn’t currently have any fantasy football value, as he is still behind the other three backs on the depth charts.

We feel that this should shape out with Jones being the starter, but he will likely split time with Morris and expect Duckett to get a good portion of the goal line carries. Jones is ranked at #37 in our updated 2008 Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Cheat Sheets  and should be consideredas a RB3 in twelve team leagues. Morris is ranked #44 and should be considered a RB4 in twelve team leagues; you might want to hand cuff these two backs together and hope for the best. Duckett will steal some goal line touchdowns, but has little fantasy football value at this time. Consider him a bye week replacement in deeper leagues, with much more value in touchdown only leagues.

Is Chciaco Bears Running Back Matt Forte Ready to Carry the Load

With a mess of a quarterback situation in Chicago, the Bears are in desperate need of a strong running game. The Cedric Benson experiment failed and led to the team cutting him and drafting running back Matt Forte from Tulane in the second round of the 2008 NFL draft. Forte, who has already been named the starting running back in Chicago, had seven carries for 17 yards in Saturday's game against the Seattle Seahawks. He has been less then stellar in the team’s first two preseason games, totaling 14 carries for 42 yards, and has been bothered by the pace of the NFL game.  With Kevin Jones starting to practice, Forte will have to shine in the seasons first couple of games to keep his starting gig.

Forte is currently ranked 29th in the 2008 Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Cheat Sheets  and should be drafted as a middle of the road RB3, since he will be given every chance to be the Chicago Bears starting running back. Still, with the passing game as bad as it is, Forte will see eight man fronts on a regular basis.

Running Back Ronnie Brown Injures Thumb

Miami Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown left Saturday’s game versus the Jacksonville Jaguars after injuring his thumb in the first quarter after being tackled. The extent of the injury has not yet been reported. Brown who is coming off major knee surgery during the 2007 season left the game with two carries for two yards. Brown who was having a breakout year before the knee surgery last season cannot suffer another injury if he wants to continue his progression towards being a top running back option. Often troubled running back Ricky Williams has looked good in camp so far and is already cutting into the amount of touches Brown will be getting each week. Keep checking in with the Bruno Boys for updates on this situation.

Consider Brown an injury risk RB2 as he ranks 23rd in the 2008 Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Cheat Sheets  running back rankings. Williams is ranked 41st by the Bruno Boys and is worth a late round flier as a RB4 in a twelve team league. If Brown continues with injury problems and if Williams can stay out of trouble, he could end up being the steal of the draft.

Tarvaris Jackson Suffers MCL sprain

Minnesota Vikings starting quarterback Tarvaris Jackson left in the first quarter of Saturday’s game against Baltimore with a sprained right MCL. It does not appear that he will need to have surgery, but this could be a blow to Jackson’s fantasy football value. He has had knee trouble in the past, so keep an eye on this situation. He was 7 for 11 passing with 82 yards and a TD in the game before he was injured. He has been solid so far this preseason throwing for 200 yards and 2 TD in the Vikings first two games.

Jackson is currently ranked as the 25th quarterback in the 2008 Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Cheat Sheets and should be considered a QB3 with the potential to be a QB2 by the end of the season, but keep checking in with the Bruno Boys for updates on his injury issues.

Brett Favre Shines in First Game with New York Jets

Brett Favre and his “fatigued” arm appeared to be fully loaded in Saturday’s preseason game versus the Washington Redskins. He played in the first two series (14 plays) and was 5 for 6 passing for 48 yards and a four-yard touchdown strike to rookie TE Dustin Keller. Favre showed signs of the Brett Favre of last year when he threw for 4,155 completing 66% of his passes.

Favre has a lot to prove this year after all the attention his retirement caused before leading to his trade to the New York Jets. After the trade Favre has jumped to number 12 in the 2008 Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Cheat Sheets quarterback rankings. Consider him a low end QB1 and the Bruno Boys advise drafting another quarterback with comparable value, so that you can play the quarterback with the best match-up each week during the season.
-------------------

Matt Schaub solid in Second Preseason Game

Good protection and an accurate arm led to Houston Texans starting quarterback Matt Schaub going 14 for 16 passing for 187 yards and two TD in three drives for the Texans in the first quarter of Saturday’s game against the New Orleans Saints. Schaub has completed 85% of his passes thus far this preseason and he hopes to get back to where he was before injuries halted the breakout season he was having in 2007. Even with question marks in the running game Schaub appears to have a good grasp on HC Gary Kubiak’s offense and could become a great value pick in the middle of the draft.

Schaub ranks as the 18th best quarterback in the 2008 Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Cheat Sheets and if he can stay healthy he should be a solid QB2. If wide receiver Andre Johnson can remain healthy and tight end Owen Daniels continues to grow in this offense, Schaub could be worth starting against favorable match-ups.
