Fantasy Football Week 6 Rankings - Running Backs

It is already heading into Week 6 of fantasy football in October, and with it brings the great change in the leaves, the mildness to the air and most importantly more hard core Bruno Boys Fantasy Football content. By now, there is definitely some separation from the who are's and the who aren'ts in your leagues. The good news is that if you are doing poorly, you have not been mathematically eliminated yet. And the bad news is that if you are 5-0, this is no time to get cozy. Plenty of things can happen and injuries can fall upon everyone's teams.  Whichever position you find yourself in, you can rest assured knowing that the Bruno Boys are here 24/7/365 for your hardcore fantasy football needs!

This week we will be without the running backs for the Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, Kansas City Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

With that being said let’s hope for a remarkable Week 6 for yourself, as well as the rest of Bruno Boys Nation. To make that happen, read through the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Week 6 Running Back Rankings.

Key Abbreviations: YPC (Yards Per Carry), YPG (Yards Per Game)

--------------------

1. Adrian Peterson (Minnesota Vikings) vs. Detroit

As if things couldn't get any worse for my deflated Detroit Lions, they now have the task of stopping one of the most electric RB's in the game in Adrian Peterson. As we have warned in the past, you usually either get really good results or really bad results. Last week we saw pretty ugly, but things should change in Week 6. Peterson should throw up a good 120 yards and 2 TD's to further bring the Detroit Lions season to a close quicker than they had hoped. He is a must start in all fantasy football league formats.
Point Projection: 24 points

--------------------

2. Clinton Portis (Washington Redskins) vs. St. Louis

After a monster Week 5 in which Clinton Portis went for a combined 158 yards and 1 TD against the very tough Philadelphia Eagles rush defense, can you just imagine what will happen when he takes on the lowly St. Louis Rams rush defense? This should be a pretty outstanding week for all that employ Clinton Portis for Week 6. He is a must start in all fantasy football league formats.
Point Projection: 23 points

--------------------

3. Reggie Bush (New Orleans Saints) vs. Oakland

After an electrifying Week 5 Monday night performance against the Minnesota Vikings in which he returned a pair of punt returns into TD's, he looks to face the Oakland Raiders rush defense which has more holes than Swiss cheese. Look for an outstanding performance and one that should add greatly to his 533 total combined yards and 3 TD's. He is a must start in all fantasy football league formats.
Point Projection: 21 points

------------------------

4. Ladainian Tomlinson (San Diego Chargers) vs. New England

Ladainian Tomlinson was another top RB that just bombed last week, struggling mightily against the Miami Dolphins. We see that changing a lot this week against what has turned into a rather average rush defense of the New England Patriots who have allowed 4.9 YPC and 124.8 YPG this season. Expect Tomlinson to bounce back, as he should be good for a pair of TD's and 80 yards, and he is such a great talent that he is a must start in all fantasy football formats, even through his early struggles.
Point Projection: 20 points

------------------------

5. Steven Jackson (St. Louis Rams) @ Washington

Heading into last weeks bye-week for the St. Louis Rams, Steven Jackson was looking a lot like his old self going for 188 total combined yards and a TD. In the previous week he went for a total of 128 yards. With the Rams in desperation mode, and a new head coach under helm, look for Jackson's numbers to once again resemble that of a top RB, making him a must start for Week 6.
Point Projection: 18 points

-----------------------

6.  Marion Barber (Dallas Cowboys) @ Arizona

Marion Barber is a man beast but he is coming off of two fairly quiet production weeks to his standards, and we don't expect a third in a row, so there is no way I see Barber playing against the Arizona Cardinals and not putting up at least 1 TD and 110 combined yards. That makes him a must start in all fantasy football league formats.
Point Projection: 17 points

------------------------

7. Ronnie Brown (Miami Dolphins) @ Houston

Two short games ago and people, including us, were questioning whether or not Ronnie Brown would make it back to a starting RB status. Well Brown has answered and it is a resounding yes! After his great Week 3 performance in which he totaled for 4 TD's he came back last week against the San Diego Chargers and ran for 125 rushing yards and a TD. Things will not get any harder against the Houston Texans this week, making him a must start in all fantasy football league formats.
Point Projection: 17 points

------------------------

8. Frank Gore (San Francisco 49ers) vs. Philadelphia

Even after back to back disappointing weeks in Weeks 4 and 5, Frank Gore still has managed to hit double digit points in every single week this season! Clinton Portis tore up the Philadelphia Eagles last week and we expect much of the same through Gore this week. He is a must start in all fantasy football league formats.
Point Projection: 17 points

------------------------

9. Matt Forte (Chicago Bears) @ Atlanta

Even though he was limited in yardage against the Detroit Lions last week, he still managed to put together a pair of TD's. This kid is not the most talented in the world, but what he does have is an opportunity to play and he is making the best of it. Against this weak Atlanta Falcons rush defense expect to see another solid week! He is a must start in all fantasy football league formats.
Point Projection: 16 points

------------------------

10. Brandon Jacobs (New York Giants) @ Cleveland

Even though Brandon Jacobs has been part of condensed RBBC thus far , he has scored at least 9 fantasy points in all four games, and the match up against the Cleveland Browns 22nd ranked rush defense is a favorable one. Another 100 rushing yard, 1 TD performance is pretty much a lock on the national stage. He remains a must start in all fantasy football league formats.
Point Projection: 16 points

------------------------

11. Michael Turner (Atlanta Falcons) vs. Chicago

Michael Turner once again had a stellar week going for 121 yards and 1 TD against the Green Bay Packers in Week 5. His match up is a bit tougher against the Chicago Bears, but that could actually help him as QB Matt Ryan is going to need an escape plan for most of the game. Look for the Atlanta Falcons duo to get a ton of work this Sunday. He remains a must play in all fantasy football league formats.
Point Projection: 16 points

------------------------

12. Steve Slaton (Houston Texans) vs. Miami

Yes, this is the same Miami Dolphins defense that held LT in check last week. That being said, Slaton has gotten it done either through the air or on the ground the past three weeks, and has had at least 1 TD in each of those games. We never suggest going against a hot hand, so I would say that you can plug Slaton into your lineup with pride for Week 6! He is a must start in all fantasy football league formats.
Point Projection: 14 points

------------------------

13. Julius Jones (Seattle Seahawks) vs. Green Bay

The bad news is he went back to only 73 rushing yards and 0 TD's. The good news is that he put up 73 rushing yards against the New York Giants. Against a weaker Green Bay Packers defense that has allowed 161.4 YPG and 5 rushing TD's, it is hard to imagine Julius Jones not getting back closer to the mid-teens mark. He is a must start in all fantasy football league formats. NOTE: With Matt Hasselbeck out, look for the Seahawks to focus even more on running the ball against the Packers 27th ranked rush defense.
Point Projection: 14 points

------------------------

14. Maurice Jones- Drew (Jacksonville Jaguars) @ Denver

Maurice Jones-Drew has found it very hard to get rolling in 2008, but even with his struggles he has averaged about 65 rushing yards and has punched in 3 TD's as well. Against this weaker Denver Broncos rush defense things could finally start to get rolling for both the Jacksonville Jaguars backs. Jones-Drew is a solid RB2 start for Week 6.
Point Projection: 13 points

------------------------

15. Ryan Grant (Green Bay Packers) @ Seattle

We have been recommending Ryan Grant for the past few weeks and even though he has been solid, he is far from what he was in 2007. That was to be expected. Either way, the Seattle Seahawks defense has been a major disapointment this year. Grant should be able to find a way to score this week. Or at least accumulate a solid amount of yards. Shouldn't he? Either way he is a low-end RB2 option for Week 6.
Point Projection: 13 points

------------------------

16. Joseph Addai (Indianapolis Colts) vs. Baltimore

There is no doubt that this will be a very tough week for the Indianapolis Colts to muster much of a ground attack, but everything that they do gain should be at the hands of Joseph Addai! Addai is a TD machine, even when he isn't gaining much yardage, so don't be surprised if he throws up only 70 rushing yards, yet punches one in as well. Addai is a solid RB2 option for Week 6.
Point Projection: 13 points

------------------------

17. Correll Buckhalter (Philadelphia Eagles) @ San Francisco

The Eagles have already ruled Westbrook out for this weekend's game against the 49ers, doing all fantasy football owners a favor as they can now plan accordingly. It wouldn't be a bad thing if those plans involved Correll Buckhalter as the 49ers are allowing 128.4 yards per game and have allowed 6 rushing scores on the year.
Point Projection: 13 points

------------------------

18. Earnest Graham (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) vs. Carolina

It really is a hit or miss with Earnest Graham. And the hits and misses never really happen when you most expect them too. He is coming off a less than outstanding 8 point performance against the Denver Broncos. We are guessing that he will start to see double digit point output once again against the Carolina panthers, making him a low-end RB2 option for Week 6.
Point Projections: 12 points

------------------------

19. Fred Taylor (Jacksonville Jaguars) @ Denver

The other piece to this solid RB duo, Denver is a dream come true for RBBC's to go against! There will be plenty of opportunity for both Jacksonville Jaguars backs as long as the score does not get out of hand, forcing an aerial assault through the air. Fred Taylor is a solid RB2 start for Week 6.
Point Projection: 11 points

------------------------

20. Le'Ron McClain (Baltimore Ravens) @ Indianapolis

He has hit double digit points in every week so far and he is facing a horrible Indianapolis Colts group when it comes to rush defense. Expect the Ravens to pound the ball often in this one as they look to keep Peyton and Co. off the field. This is one of those games were it feels everything is aligning just right. McClain is a solid RB2.
Point Projection: 11 points

------------------------

21. DeAngelo Williams (Carolina Panthers) @ Tampa Bay

Don't get too overly excited about DeAngelo Williams' Week 5 in which he went for 148 yards and 3 TD's. That 33 point fantasy football performance was his first double digit showing of the year. Although he is a recommended low-end RB2 start this week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, don't be surprised if he struggles to see double digits again. But, the hot hand deserves a nod this week as your RB2 if you don't have better options.
Point Projection: 11 points

------------------------

22. Thomas Jones (New York Jets) vs. Cincinnati

Thomas Jones has been a major disappointment this year as he has only reached double digit fantasy football points once this year. That should change though, being able to go against the horrible Cincinnati Bengals rush defense who has allowed 171 YPG and 6 TD's on the year. He is a recommended RB2 play in Week 6.
Point Projection: 11 points

------------------------

23. Justin Fargas (Oakland Raiders) @ New Orleans

Fargas is expected to be the primary back for the Raiders this week, after suffering a groin injury earlier in the season. Fargas looked good before going down, averaging 5.2 yards per carry. Even with new Raiders coach Tom Cable wanting to throw the football more, the Raiders will best be served by running the rock in this one, which means Fargas should have a solid return.
Point Projection: 10 points

------------------------

24. Edgerrin James (Arizona Cardinals) vs. Dallas

One of the better surprises for the 2008 season at the RB position, Edgerrin James has scored double digit fantasy points in four of his five contests and it should continue even as he faces a solid rush defense in the Dallas Cowboys. He is a RB2 recommended start.
Point Projection: 10 points

------------------------

25. Jamal Lewis (Cleveland Browns) vs. New York Giants

Jamal Lewis had hovered around the double digit fantasy football points mark most of the year, but finally broke through with a 16 point game in week 4. Times will be a bit tougher, going against the New York Giants, but we believe he has it in him to go for 70 yards.
Point Projection: 7 points

------------------------

26. Felix Jones (Dallas Cowboys) @ Arizona

12, 1, 14, 0, 17. What is that? The fantasy football points that he has put up so far in 2008. Notice what week it is? We love Felix Jones and what he brings to the table, but we are never one to go against a streak like this. If he gets his touches though, you know he will produce! He is averaging an insanely high YPC average and it is just due time until the Dallas Cowboys start feeding him the rock more. We would not be shocked if he does have a heck of a week this week, which is why we would start him at the flex if need be, but there is also a good chance that this will be a shoot out and his carries just will not be there.
Point Projection: 7 points

------------------------

27. Willis McGahee (Baltimore) @ Indianapolis

The Colts offense has been struggling. The Ravens defense has dominated. The Colts rush defense is last in the league. The Ravens rank Th in rushing. The gameplan for the Ravens will be simple, run, run, run. McGee should reach 70 yards, but will more than likely lose out on the TD to McClain.
Point Projection: 7 points

------------------------

28. Sammy Morris (New England Patriots) @ San Diego

With LaMont Jordan out and Laurence Maroney ailing Sammy Morris should see a decent amount of carries against the San Diego Chargers. He may find it hard to get into the endzone as the Chargers have given up just 2 rushing TDs on the year, but should be able to gain around 70 yards against a team that's giving up 113.4 per game, even with Kevin Faulk involved.
Point Projection:
4 points

--------------------

29. Darren McFadden (Oakland Raiders) @ New Orleans

The Raiders offense is dependent on good RB play and they face a New Orleans offense that should find it pretty easy to put numbers on the board if the Raiders struggle on offense. We expect the rock to be pounded time and time again on Sunday and at the very least, plenty of screen passes should go his way in this battle. He projects at being a RB3 or flex play since he is nursing a turf toe injury and has to fend off carries from Fargas and Michael Bush.
Point Projection: 7 points

------------------------

30. Chris Perry (Cincinnati Bengals) @ New York Jets

Raise your hands if you are confused on Chris Perry's struggles this year. He has hit 5 fantasy football points 3 times this year, and went into double digits twice. Against this New York Jets defense we see him being closer to 5 than 10.
Point Projection: 6 points

------------------------

31. Jonathan Stewart (Carolina Panthers) @ Tampa Bay

As many RB's this year, Jonathan Stewart's rushing yardage is not really there, but his TD's sure are. This week he faces a rush defense that have given up a total of 0 TD's this year. That is right, a big goose egg! Expect a pretty ordinary day from this blooming RB.
Point Projection: 6 points

------------------------

32. Deuce McAllister (New Orleans Saints) vs. Oakland

The "Deuce" had a great week 4 only to totally drop the ball in Week 5 against the Minnesota Vikings. Expect him to bounce back some and grab you a good handful of points this week. He is a low-end flex option this week.
Point Projection: 6 points

------------------------

33. Kevin Smith (Detroit Lions) @ Minnesota

Let's face it, the Detroit Lions are a wreck. Personally I am going to start staying away, no matter the matchup, on almost all Detroit Lions players except for their twin WR's. That being said, someone has to get the yardage in the backfield. If it isn't him it will be Rudi Johnson. Either way we don't like the matchup much at all this week.
Point Projection: 6 points

------------------------

34. Jerious Norwood (Atlanta Falcons) vs. Chicago

Who knows, maybe I am the only Jerious Norwood fan on this planet, but I think this kid has some good skills and the Atlanta Falcons are going to need them if they are to succeed against the Chicago Bears in Week 6. It is fair to expect 60 combined yards from this young, solid RB.
Point Projection: 6 points

------------------------

35.  Ladell Betts (Washington Redskins) vs. St. Louis

Ladell Betts is far from a flashy player, but he does come close to putting up 5 points a week on a consistent basis. Going against the St. Louis Rams this week we have faith in him hitting this mark.
Point Projection: 6 points

------------------------

36. Tim Hightower (Arizona Cardinals) vs. Dallas

The yardage simply isn't there, but he is punching in TD's left and right. This is the week in which we see him going for a dry spell though. The only way Tim Hightower will grab a TD is if the Arizona Cardinals happen to be in a goal line situation, and even then they may pass it to one of their WR's. This is a game that will be critical to capitalize on every possession that they can.
Point Projection: 6 points

------------------------

37. Rudi Johnson (Detroit Lions) @ Minnesota

Someone has to get some yardage for the Detroit Lions. As horrible as the passing game has looked so far it would not surprise us to see both Kevin Smith and Rudi Johnson getting a shot at controlling the game and keeping Adrian Peterson off of the field.
Point Projection: 6 points

------------------------

38. Derrick Ward (New York Giants) @ Cleveland

Derrick Ward has had a minimum of 5 fantasy football points each week this season. This should be a great matchup for him, and a possible sleeper for Week 6, but after Brandon Jacobs performance last week, and the RBBC approach that the New York Giants employ, we have a feeling that Jacobs will be rewarded with a few more touches, taking away from Ward.
Point Projection: 6 points

------------------------

39. Chester Taylor (Minnesota Vikings) vs. Detroit

I'll tell you what, I can run on the Detroit Lions defense, and that wouldn't be a pretty site with my man boobs bouncing up and down. If I can do it, so can Chester Taylor. Look for him to have a solid, but unspectacular week.
Point Projection: 6 points

------------------------

40. Laurence Maroney (New England) @ San Diego

We all know that Laurence Maroney has been possibly the biggest RB bust of the year. Even against a Chargers defense that is struggling, Maroney still may find it hard to put up fantasy points, especially since his shoulder doesn't seem to be 100% healthy, something his questionable status confirms.
Point Projection: 6 points

------------------------

41. Darren Sproles (San Diego Chargers) vs. New England

Both Darren Sproles and Ladainian Tomlinson struggled against the Miami Dolphins defense last week. There should be some sort of fire under their butts heading into this game, but if healthy, it will be LT, not Sproles racking up the points.
Point Projection: 5 points

-----------------------

42. Michael Pittman (Denver Broncos) vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

With Coach Mike Shanahan ruling Selvin Young out for week 6, Pittman should not only be used in goal-line situations this week, he'll also get a good chunk of the carries between the 20s. Then again, Mike Shanahan likes messing with fantasy owners, so we could get a solid dose of Andre Hall this weekend.
Point Projection: 5 points

--------------------

43. Andre Hall (Denver Broncos) vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Hall's all but disappeared since his 61 yards in week 1, but he could reemerge on the scene in week 6 as the Broncos' will only have him and Pittman in their RBBC.
Point Projection: 4 points

--------------------

44. Leon Washington (New York Jets) vs. Cincinnati

The New York Jets are looking to produce a nice season this year, and if Thomas Jones doesn't get it going, they will eventually turn to Leon Washington. This probably is not the week though as Thomas Jones should do just fine and is still their RB of choice.
Point Projection:
5 points.

--------------------

45. Ricky Williams (Miami Dolphins) @ Houston

Other than one week, he has averaged only 3 to 4 points. Expect that to continue this week against the Houston Texans.
Point Projection:
4 points

--------------------

46. Ahman Green (Houston Texans) vs. Miami

Why should Steve Slaton have all the fun? This Miami Dolphins defense could be for real, so it would be smart for the Houston Texans to give Ahman Green a handful of plays as well.
Point Projection: 4 points

--------------------

47. Kevin Jones (Chicago Bears) @ Atlanta

Kevin Jones got double digit carries last week against the Detroit Lions. It will be interesting to see if that continues this week against the Atlanta Falcons.
Point Projection: 4 points

--------------------

48.  Brandon Jackson (Green Bay Packers) @ Seattle

Ryan Grant has been a major disappointment this year and it is just due time before Brandon Jackson starts seeing more and more carries. We are not trying to sound like a broken record, but keep this guy on your radar.
Point Projection: 4 points

--------------------

49. Michael Bush (Oakland Raiders) @ New Orleans

If the Oakland Raiders are to have any shot at this game, they will need their RB's to produce. Something tells me after the New Orleans Saints made Adrian Peterson's life a hell last week that Michael Bush will not fare much better.
Point Projection: 4 points

--------------------

50. Warrick Dunn (Tampa Bay) vs. Carolina

The snoozer of the week, Warrick Dunn comes in at 50 on the Bruno Boys RB charts. He should produce some, but his very solid 2008 season hits a road block this week against the Carolina Panthers as this should turn into a battle through the air as well as the ground.
Point Projection: 4 points

--------------------

WEEK 6 BYE WEEK RUNNING BACKS

Marshawn Lynch (Buffalo Bills) – BYE

Marshawn Lynch is averaging over 15 fantasy football points a week this season and with as hot as the Buffalo Bills are, barring the blunder against the Arizona Cardinals, expect him to continue on his RB1 ways.

------------------------

Chris Johnson (Tennessee Titans) – BYE

What a nice surprise in a year that has torn away many fantasy football stars due to injury or other matters. He has turned himself into a solid RB2 start in any given week.

------------------------

LenDale White (Tennessee Titans)  – BYE

If you are capable of looking past the horrible week against the Baltimore Ravens, LenDale White has actually had a pretty solid season. As long as the Tennessee Titans passing game is in flux, expect that to continue.

------------------------

Larry Johnson (Kansas City Chiefs)  – BYE

The poster boy of inconsistency, he can either be an outstanding play or a completely horrible play. Expect the inconsistency to continue.

-------------------------

Willie Parker (Pittsburgh Steelers) - BYE

The good news is that Willie Parker may be ready come Week 7. The even better news is that he could become the main goal line back as well with Rashard Mendenhall being out for the rest of the season.
