Fantasy Football Week 14 Rankings - Quarterbacks

Now that the fantasy football playoffs are upon us in some leagues, it’s time to stop messing around and make sure you have your best lineup ready to go. And before we get to the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Week 14 Quarterback Rankings, it should go without saying that between injuries and erratic play from some of the quarterbacks that this has been one of the most bizarre fantasy seasons at this position. To evidence this point you need to look no further than Atlanta and Baltimore, where rookie quarterbacks Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco, respectively, have established themselves as legitimate fantasy options.

--------------------

1. Kurt Warner (Arizona Cardinals) vs. St. Louis

In what was one his worst games of the season, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner completed just 21 of 39 passes last week with three touchdowns and three interceptions. That’s still a nice chunk of fantasy points, 15 to be exact. Expect a better performance from Warner in this game against the St. Louis Rams and their lousy defense. In a week nine matchup in St. Louis, Warner torched his former team for 343 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions.
Point Projection: 24 Points

--------------------

2. Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers) vs. Houston

Green Bay Packers' quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, has been on fire lately as he’s accumulated eight touchdowns in the team’s last three games and gone over 220 passing yards in each of those contests. The Packers are trying to figure out what to do with their running game, so in the meantime expect Rodgers to continue to make plays. This week he’s matched up against the 24th ranked defense in terms of points allowed. That should only help his cause.
Point Projection: 22 Points

--------------------

3. Jay Cutler (Denver Broncos) vs. Kansas City

It just so happens that the Denver Broncos managed to be just one of two teams to lose to the hapless Kansas City Chiefs this season. But even in a losing effort, Cutler still racked up 361 passing yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. The Broncos now have a running game and Cutler has started throwing to tight end Tony Scheffler again. Meanwhile the Chiefs rank 25th in passing yards allowed and 30th in points allowed, so expect a great game from Cutler in this one.
Point Projection: 21 Points

--------------------

4. Drew Brees (New Orleans Saints) vs. Atlanta

Similar to Warner, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees had one of his worst games last week as he completed 25 of 47 passes for 296 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions, which was still good for 13 fantasy points. All that came against a tough Tampa Bay defense. This week Brees is matched up against a team in Atlanta that gives up a lot of passing yards, but not many points. Something’s got to give there, so don’t hesitate in starting Brees this week.
Point Projection: 20 Points

--------------------

5. Peyton Manning (Indianapolis Colts) vs. Cincinnati

As quarterback Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts conclude their tour of the AFC North this season with a game at home against Cincinnati, he is coming off a forgettable performance against the Cleveland Browns. In that game he was 15 of 21 for 125 yards with two interceptions and no touchdowns, marking the first time since a week seven loss at Green Bay that Manning failed to throw a touchdown. He’ll likely reverse his touchdown/interception ratio from the Browns game against the Bengals, who rank 20th in pass defense and 24th in points allowed.
Point Projection: 20 Points

--------------------

6. Matt Cassel (New England Patriots) at Seattle

With first year starters at the quarterback position you have to be willing to take the bad with the good. New England Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel certainly experienced the bad last week with four turnovers and no touchdowns in a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. This week however he gets to face a much worse defense in the Seattle Seahawks, who are last in passing yards allowed and 26th in points allowed.
Point Projection: 18 Points

--------------------

7. Eli Manning (New York Giants) vs. Philadelphia

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning’s biggest problem entering the season was that he simply threw too many interceptions. This season he’s thrown just eight picks and three of those came in the loss to Cleveland in week six. Manning has continued to play well, especially in pressure situations like this week’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. In the Giants’ week 10 win at Philadelphia, Manning threw for 191 yards with two touchdowns and one interception, which is good for 19 points. With receiver Plaxico Burress out and the weather likely forcing more of a running game, expect something similar, albeit less, for Manning in this game.
Point Projection: 18 Points

--------------------

8. Tyler Thigpen (Kansas City Chiefs) at Denver

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Tyler Thigpen finally stumbled last week against a quick Oakland secondary but he still led the team to a win. He also managed to complete 68.1 percent of his passes and post an impressive 7.4 average yards per attempt. So even though his stats weren’t great, he still played very well. This week, he’ll likely get back in the end zone against the Broncos in what figures to be a game with little defense played.
Point Projection: 17 Points

--------------------

9. Matt Ryan (Atlanta Falcons) at New Orleans

Atlanta rookie Matt Ryan continues to amaze as he’s led his team to an 8-4 record. He’s now gone over 200 passing yards in seven straight games and has nine touchdowns against just three interceptions during that streak. He’s just getting better as the season goes on, which is great for those of you who managed to pluck him off the waiver wire. This week he’ll enjoy another good game against the Saints who are 24th in pass defense and 23rd in points allowed.
Point Projection: 17 Points

--------------------

10. Brett Favre (New York Jets) at San Francisco

The New York Jets and quarterback Brett Favre surprisingly struggled last week against a weak Denver defense. At the same time, the San Francisco 49ers had their best defensive performance against an inconsistent Buffalo Bills team, holding them to just three points. But San Francisco still ranks 28th in pass defense and 27th in total yards allowed and it would be unrealistic to expect Favre and the Jets to struggle for a second straight week against a bad defense.
Point Projection: 17 Points

--------------------

11. Ben Roethlisberger (Pittsburgh Steelers) vs. Dallas

Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has put together three consecutive good games and it’s no coincidence that they were all wins for the Steelers. The team is at its best when Big Ben is at his best and that’s happening right now. The Cowboys don’t give up a ton of passing yards but are allowing almost 22 points a game on defense. While the running backs continue to split carries, Roethlisberger will continue to look to the trusting hands of receivers Hines Ward and Santanio Holmes and tight end Heath Miller.
Point Projection: 15 Points

--------------------

12. Tony Romo (Dallas Cowboys) at Pittsburgh

In one of the many epic matchups this week, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will try to navigate the offense through the league’s best defense in Pittsburgh. While Romo has been white-hot recently it has come against San Francisco and Seattle, two defenses that won’t be mistaken for the 1985 Chicago Bears anytime soon. Romo should do OK in this game but expect a rather mild performance by his standards.
Point Projection:
15 Points

--------------------

13. Donovan McNabb (Philadelphia Eagles) at New York Giants

So Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb throws for 260 yards and four touchdowns in a win over the Arizona Cardinals last week and all is forgiven, right? Wrong. The Eagles are still clinging to the hope of a playoff spot in the NFC and it will take more than a good performance against a gambling defense to do that. This week he’ll play against a great Giants defense that will keep McNabb in check more than it did in week 10 when he threw for 194 yards and three touchdowns.
Point Projection: 15 Points

--------------------

14. Shaun Hill (San Francisco 49ers) vs. New York Jets

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Shaun Hill has continued to play well this season, even against tough defenses like Dallas and Buffalo. With eight touchdowns against three interceptions, a quarterback rating of 94.6 and an average yards per attempt of 7.7, Hill is legit. While he won’t have a huge game against the Jets, he will do enough to garner a fair amount of fantasy points.
Point Projection: 15 Points

--------------------

15. Philip Rivers (San Diego Chargers) vs. Oakland

In his last three games, all against good or improving secondary units, San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers has struggled with three turnovers and just two touchdowns. All three games were Charger losses and the season appears to be headed down the tubes for San Diego. This week Rivers faces another good secondary in Oakland and while he should put up decent numbers, don’t expect a huge game.
Point Projection: 15 Points

--------------------

16. Jeff Garcia (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) at Carolina

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jeff Garcia has been what the team has needed all season long as his efficiency (eight touchdowns and three interceptions) has been a huge factor in the team’s success this year. Garcia should have another solid game against the Carolina Panthers this week. While Carolina ranks in the top half of every major defensive category, Garcia managed to complete 15 of 20 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown in a week six win over the Panthers. Expect a similar performance in this game.
Point Projection: 14 Points

--------------------

17. Matt Schaub (Houston Texans) at Green Bay

Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub was close to being healthy enough to play last Monday against the Jacksonville Jaguars and head coach Gary Kubiak is reporting he’ll start at Green Bay. Monitor the situation and make Schaub doesn't suffer a setback because he should have an OK day against the Packers, who have given up 86 points in their last two games.
Point Projections: 14 Points

--------------------

18. Trent Edwards/ JP Losman (Buffalo Bills) vs. Miami

For the Buffalo Bills, the question this week is which Trent Edwards will show up to play quarterback against the Dolphins. Will it be the same guy who threw for 273 yards and two touchdowns against the Chiefs two weeks ago or will it be the man who threw for 112 yards and no touchdowns last week against the 49ers? The Dolphins don’t allow a lot of points so expect somewhere in between. We expect Edward to play but we will keep you posted as more information becomes available.
Point Projection: 13 Points

--------------------

19. Joe Flacco (Baltimore Ravens) vs. Washington

With four touchdowns and no interceptions in his last two games, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco is beginning to impress almost as much as fellow rookie Matt Ryan. The Washington Redskins possess a more sound defense then last week’s foe, the Cincinnati Bengals, so don’t expect a repeat this week of the last two games.
Point Projection: 13 Points

--------------------

20. Kyle Orton (Chicago Bears) vs. Jacksonville

Chicago Bears quarterback Kyle Orton had a disappointing performance last week against the Minnesota Vikings as he completed just 11 of 29 passes and had three interceptions to offset his two touchdowns. As long he stays away from Jaguars cornerback Rashean Mathis in this game, he should be OK but that is much harder done than said.
Point Projection: 13 Points

--------------------

21. Gus Frerotte (Minnesota Vikings) at Detroit

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Gus Frerotte has helped lead his team to the top of the NFC North, which is quite surprising given his stats. Give credit to Frerotte for playing well after entering the season as the backup but he is still not a guy worth looking at in fantasy leagues as he tends to turn the ball over too often. Still, based on the match-up, you could do worse.
Point Projection: 13 Points

--------------------

22. Jake Delhomme (Carolina Panthers) vs. Tampa Bay

Carolina quarterback Jake Delhomme has been OK this season but recently the team has decided that the best way to win would be to go with a heavy ground game. The strategy has worked as the Panthers have won two of their three games since going to a run-heavy offense, but it hasn’t helped Delhomme’s value. Neither will playing against the Tampa Bay defense.
Point Projection: 12 Points

--------------------

23. Jason Campbell (Washington Redskins) at Baltimore

Since starting the season with six touchdowns in the first four games, Washington quarterback Jason Campbell has just four in his last eight games. This week Campbell will go against the Baltimore defense, which is the second best in the NFL behind Pittsburgh so it looks like another mediocre week for the third-year quarterback.
Point Projection: 11 Points

--------------------

24. Chad Pennington (Miami Dolphins) at Buffalo

Miami quarterback Chad Pennington has been playing very well the last six weeks as he’s helped lead the team to five wins in those games. Still, this week wouldn’t be a good one to play Pennington as the team must travel to Buffalo where the weather is likely to be very poor.
Point Projection: 11 Points

--------------------

25. David Garrard (Jacksonville Jaguars) at Chicago

You know things are bad when one of Jacksonville’s leaders, running back Fred Taylor, told reporters that this team was the worst one he’s been on and that there is no chemistry between the players. Against a good defense on the road in poor weather means quarterback David Garrard is unlikely to break out of his funk this week.
Point Projection: 10 Points

--------------------

26. Daunte Culpepper (Detroit Lions) vs. Minnesota

It’d be easier to drop Detroit Lions quarterback Daunte Culpepper down the list but the rest of the guys below him are starting at some terrible matchups. Minnesota has a shaky pass defense and with the Lions’ inability to run the ball effectively, Culpepper will be asked to throw a lot in this one. That’s not necessarily a good thing.
Point Projection: 10 Points

--------------------

27. Marc Bulger (St. Louis Rams) at Arizona

St. Louis quarterback Marc Bulger was pretty terrible last week as he completed just 16 of 35 passes for 149 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions. He often just threw the ball up hoping somebody on his team would come up with it but that often wasn’t the case. The only reason he’s not at the bottom of the list is the all or nothing Arizona defense could yield some yards for Bulger.
Point Projection: 9 Points

--------------------

28. Matt Hasselbeck (Seattle Seahawks) vs. New England

You have to give Seattle quarterback Matt Hasselbeck credit for not giving up. Despite getting hit multiple times in his injured back last week against the Cowboys, Hasselbeck continued to get up and played hard throughout the entire game. However, toughness will only take you so far so don’t expect much from Hasselbeck this week against New England.
Point Projection: 9 Points

--------------------

29. JaMarcus Russell (Oakland Raiders) at San Diego

Oakland quarterback JaMarcus Russell has now gone three games without throwing an interception. Unfortunately, in those three games he’s only thrown one touchdown pass. That may change this week against a terrible San Diego pass defense, but Russell is still a risky play in any league, especially during your fantasy playoffs.
Point Projection: 9 Points

--------------------

30. Kerry Collins (Tennessee Titans) vs. Cleveland

Upon losing their first game of the season the New York Jets two weeks ago, the Tennessee Titans decided to stick with their bread and butter on offense, which is a heavy dose of running the football. Expect more in this game against Cleveland, especially considering how often the Browns intercept passes, 17 picks on the season.
Point Projection: 8 Points

--------------------

31. Ryan Fitzpatrick (Cincinnati Bengals) at Indianapolis

Cincinnati quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick may be seeing his last days as a Bengal. Last week against the Ravens he completed just 12 of 31 pass attempts for 124 yards and was eventually pulled for third-string quarterback Jordan Palmer. This is not a player you want to mess with on your team.
Point Projection: 8 Points

--------------------

32. Ken Dorsey (Cleveland Browns) at Tennessee

Let’s see here: We have a third-string quarterback in Cleveland quarterback Ken Dorsey, starting his first game of the season on the road against one of the toughest defenses in the league. Considering all of that, let’s just hope Dorsey makes it through the game healthy enough to finish the season for Cleveland because the next guy in line to play quarterback is wide receiver/kick return man Joshua Cribbs.
Point Projection: 5 Points
