I just picked up Marques Colston off the waiver wire in one of my leagues. He was just chillin’ there, freely available without any waiver claiming needed. All I had to do was click a few buttons and viola; I had Marques Colston for Anthony Fasano, thank you very much. I can’t believe my good luck. While this league isn’t a crew of hardcore dedicated fantasy footballers through and through, it does have a lot savvy players. So you never know what you might find on your own waiver wires. In fact, you never know which waiver wire guys this time of year might evolve to really valuable players. Let’s take a look at some guys who I think are well worth your time that might be available in your leagues.
------------------
RB Thomas Jones (New York Jets)
Okay, there’s a creepy number of really decent guys available in this same league where I snagged Colston. I simply don’t have room to squirrel away all of the talent on the waiver wire. If by chance Thomas Jones is available on your waiver wire though, do yourself a favor and get him. Now, the Jets schedule in terms of run defenses is cake. And the most delicious cake at that (like say the flourless chocolate cake/budino from Rose Pistola in San Francisco, which is officially the best dessert I’ve ever had).
------------------
RB Kenny Watson (Cincinnati Bengals)
Now in most leagues, the guys available on the waiver wire are more on par with Kenny Watson, whom I’ve had a bit of a fantasy thing for since last year. My faith in Kenny is pretty strong – so you can imagine my dismay when I saw that he was briefly released. But he’s back now, baby! If you’re looking for an RB that you can plug and play based on matchups, take a look at Watson. I believe he’ll be the back that ol’ Marv has starting before long and Cinci faces some great matchups like the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts. They also have some tougher matchups and a bye still to come, so I’m not saying Watson is an every weeker by any stretch, but he could do nicely for you in Weeks 8 and 14 in particular.
------------------
QB Jake Delhomme (Carolina Panthers)
There are going to be some nervous fantasy owners who just saw their QB Jake Delhomme incapable of doing, well, really much of anything against the Bucs. But rest easy my Delhomme friends. Sure, Carolina still has a bye coming up, but they are lucky enough to be facing Arizona Cardinals, Oakland Raiders, Detroit Lions, and Atlanta Falcons in the upcoming weeks. That’s about as good as it gets – a who’s who of the crappy pass Ds in the NFL. So, if he is by chance available and you’re say a Tony Romo owner or a just have really bad QBs, consider a little Delhomme for your home.
------------------
WR Donnie Avery (St. Louis Rams)
Okay this one is a dream that I can’t seem to let die – I’ve been high on Avery since the preseason, so maybe I can personally will him to a successful rookie year. I bet Avery is available in most every league, but he has been doing a decent little job over the past few weeks – in Week 4 he had 22 yards receiving and 37 yards rushing (on 1 carry) for a TD. And then after a bye in Week 5, he came back with a solid 73 yard game last week. Not so bad. I think he may be replacing Drew Bennett quite nicely and the Rams have a sweeeeeet schedule. Geez, that’s the main focus of this column today, isn’t it? But seriously the Rams’ NFC West division is easy on the pass, setting Avery up for some potentially great games.

Okay, now that I’ve presented you with a variety of players that could be on waivers, I’m sure there are plenty of other guys you might have questions about. If so I recommend you do one of two things: (1) come to FFLibrarian and leave me a comment or send me an e-mail or (2) check out the Bruno Boys’ Fantasy Football Q&A LIVE tonight. Good luck!
