This has been such a fantastic week for fantasy centerfielders. There was a great blend of power, average, and speed. The players that made this list had all three of those statistics working for them this week and they really helped carry several fantasy teams. The three that made this list may be a bit surprising because one of them is coming back from illness, the other was mainly a bench player, and the third has had a solid season, but nothing compared to the numbers he had last year. Each player helped put up big time numbers for fantasy owners during an extremely important part of the year. Give these centerfielders praise because they deserve it.
Gold
Nate McLouth (LF/CF/RF - Pittsburgh Pirates) - McLouth’s numbers started taking a hit as he was battling some type of illness, but it seems the McLouth of the first half is back, and with a vengeance. He’s on his way to setting the team record for homeruns by a centerfielder. He’s also only one stolen base away from becoming just the second 20/20 player for the Pirates. He’s been a complete surprise this year and it looks like he’s the real deal. This week driving in runs, hitting for average, and stealing bases like crazy. He couldn’t have picked a better time for fantasy owners.
9/22, 6 runs, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 5 SB, .409 AVG
Silver
Rajai Davis (CF - Oakland Athletic) - Davis has been unbelievable this week. He was part of a team that scored eight runs in an inning while only getting one hit. He was the one who collected the hit and it happened to be a grand slam. His power numbers are quite a surprise, but the speed he has is far from shocking. He’s extremely quick and fast and he’s finally gotten enough playing time where he can do something if he reaches base. He was one of the most productive fantasy players of the week and isn’t even owned in many leagues. Pick him up if he’s available because he’s on a hot streak right now.
7/18, 5 runs, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 4 SB, .389 AVG
Bronze
Curtis Granderson (CF - Detroit Tigers) - Overall Granderson’s season doesn’t look as good as his numbers a year ago. However, that’s mainly because last year he put up insanely good numbers. He had a very solid year, but the main problem for him is that his RBI total was down. He can’t be blamed for all of that because the Tigers as a team have underperformed as a team. Granderson has lots of talent. He can hit for power, he can hit for average, he can steal bases, and he has an incredible ability to get extra base hits. Hopefully he keeps this up because owners need this kind of production for the playoffs. Overall he had a terrific week.
9/26, 11 runs, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 1 SB, .346 AVG
