MLB Top Weekly Performances - Third Basemen (9/14)

The NL East dominates this week, as their third basemen dominate the discussion.  Whether hitting for average power, or stealing an occasional base, the NL East third basemen came through in these important times.  Your top three:

Gold

David Wright (New York Mets):  Last year, Wright was about the only bright spot on a Mets team that completely squandered a playoff spot they had well in hand.  Is it deja vu all over again?  Wright, once again, had a fantastic September week, hitting an unbelievable .632 with four homers, nine RBI, seven R, and a stolen base, even though the Mets lost a lot of ground to the Phillies.  If the Mets go on into the playoffs, this could be the September which causes Wright claims his first MVP title.

Silver

Jorge Cantu (Florida Marlins): It has been a great comeback season for Cantu, and this week, he helped the Marlins shock the world.  His home run on Friday gave him 25 for the season, which meant the Marlins became the first team ever to have four infielders hit 25 home runs or more in the same season.  Cantu actually hit three HR for the week, along with a .350 AVG, eight RBI, and seven R, and the Marlins have a legitimate shot to have all four infielders hit 30 HR or more.  The leasson?  Draft Marlins' infielders next year.

Bronze

Chipper Jones (Atlanta Braves): Ever since Jones' chase for .400 was unofficially declared dead, he has been somewhat quiet.  Not this week.  Jones blasted his way to a .529 AVG in 17 ABs, adding a HR, two RBI, six runs scored, and a stolen base.  Jones is still hitting .365 for the season, with an OPS of 1.036, proving that the only thing that could and did stop him was defense.
