  This has been a very good week for centerfielders. The number one centerfielder this week was a guy who normally plays any outfield position when someone needs a break. He definitely earned his playing time by putting up terrific numbers. Then there is Lastings Milledge who was traded from the Mets for Brian Schneider and Ryan Church.   The top performers this week seem to be all different types of players. First off, Josh Hamilton is hitting every pitch while trying to capture the triple crown. Secondly, Jacoby Ellsbury is annoying opposing batters by catching anything hit in his direction, plus he's shown a good mixture of power and speed.   This week's batch of centerfielders really performed well. Along with the resurgence of Mark Kotsay was the terrific week of young Carlos Gomez. It seems to be a kind of passing of the torch, ushering in a new era of hard-nosed players. Kotsay was always one of the players that would sacrifice his body in order to win.   It was an interesting week from the Centerfielders this week, as it really seems the return of the old-school Centerfielder is upon us. By that I mean, your days of the Griffey's and Hunters and Jones' appears over, and the Willie McGee/Vince Coleman mode seems to have returned, meaning lots of defense, lots of speed, getting on base, but not much power.   There are some cool names in the top three this week; names you wouldn't normally expect. Center field has really evolved over the last 20 years, going from primarily a defensive position, to an offensive position with the primes of Griffey and Andruw Jones, and now back to a bit of a defensive position yet again.
