NASCAR Sharpie 500 Expert Picks

Well that was sure a mix bag of picks I had last week.  I wound up with four drivers in the top ten, including the winner of the race.  I also wound up with three drivers finishing no better than 28th; but I only had one solid B list driver.

An engine problem killed Kasey Kahne and his fantasy pick, but was the most picked B list driver for the week.  An early, but extra, pit stop for A.J. Allmendinger to fix some damage on his car ended up ruining his day.  Kurt Busch wound up spinning his car out late causing him a crappy finish.

A list active driver:

Matt Kenseth - This is the third time on this list for Kenseth.  In the past six races this driver has two wins at the track.  His last three Sprint Cup finishes have been great as well.  I feel he is going to continue to be great at this track.

B list active drivers:

Dale Earnhardt Jr. - This is the fifth time on this list for DEJ.  He still has the best finishing average at this track and I feel it will continue after the end of this race as well.   His last two Sprint Cup finishes have not been super, but not super horrible either.

Ryan Newman - This is the fourth time on this list for Newman.  I used him last time at this track and he flopped.  He is a bigger gamble now with his 2008 season being most of a bust, but I will choose him again.  He has three top tens at this track in the past six races which still looks good to me.

C list active driver:

Travis Kvapil - This is the fifth time on this list for Kvapil.  With no C list driver being really great everyone is going to be a pick and pray gamble.  In his last three Sprint Cup races he does have two solid finishes. In his last six starts at this track he does have two top twenty finishes.

Sleeper picks:

Tony Stewart - Stewart has two top tens in the past six races at this track.  His average finish over that time is 15.83 which is not bad at all. If you do not like my Matt Kesneth pick this is one driver you might want to try out this week.

David Gilliland - Gilliland is a bit of a gamble, but one you might want to take.  In his last race at this track he pulled in a top 10 finish.  His 2008 season as of late though has not been super though with a finish no better than 20th in his last four Sprint Cup starts.

Aric Almirola - If you pick Almirola you will not have to worry if he will not make the race.  He has only two starts at this track, but in his last race he got a top ten.  I think we can get another good finish from him in this car.
