Boy, I woke up yesterday with a 103 fever and my first
thought (other than wanting to sleep for 20 hours) was how could I deprive the
SS reader of their waiver wire finale? Perish the thought! The regular season
ends in few days, so if you do have one more shot at making any moves, here's
some food for thought - I am for teams and player that have a ton to play for
this week.
C Matthew
Lombardi - CGY: You might be more familiar with him this week,
mainly because he's scored two huge goals in must-have games for the Flames.
He's got 4 points in his last 3 games and is giving the club a much needed
boost from the 3rd line.
LW Matt
Cooke - WSH: The type of sandpaper player that the Caps
will desperately need to be at his best this week as the team tries to buck the
odds and squeeze into the playoffs. Ovechkin can't do it alone and Cooke has
been a solid contributor on past Canuck teams in the spring.
D Anton
Stralman - TOR: OK, I lied on this one; I like a player from a
team that's been knocked out. In most fantasy leagues, defensemen that can
contribute offensively are gold, and Stralman's play (3 points in his last 2
games) over the last couple of weeks strongly suggests he has that potential.
He's certainly worth a one week look.
D Dan Hamhuis
- NSH: Has been one of the reasons why the Preds have
managed to keep themselves in potential playoff position. While he hasn't been
on the score sheet in the last 5 games, he's a +3 and does have 28 points on
the season. One of the earlier first round picks ever made by the Preds, he
appears to have finally blossomed into a 25 minute per game defenceman they
envisioned when they drafted him 12th overall back in 2001.
