PGA Top Tournament Performances: Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital Open - TPC Summerlin - Las Vegas, NV

It was a fun week of golf if you like long drives and low scoring, like most of us do.  At the top, it was all sorts of unfamiliar names who are battling for an exemption; while the better known (or better in general) players were nowhere to be found.  This week, it was a Who Is He from a couple of weeks ago who came out the winner and snagged himself an exemption for two years.  Others made powerful moves up and down the money list, so after four picture-perfect days of golf plus, yes, even Justin Timberlake, we've got ourselves some Top Performances.  Let's take a look.

Gold

Marc Turnesa - Great job by Turnesa this week, who really pushed his game into gear for the Fall Series.  This week, however, he's got himself a win and a two-year exemption for the PGA Tour as well.  He shot 62-64-69-68 (-25) to win by three shots.  Bearing in mind that the "grip and rippers" had a field day this week, it's easy to understand how Turnesa finished 50th in Driving Distance this week, even though he was averaging over 300 yds/drive.  He was also 47th in Driving Accuracy; and this was so tightly bunched that it was misleading as well.  It was tough to miss fairways, and even when you did, it wasn't much of a penalty.  No, Turnesa got it done with the flat stick and the number clubs this week.  He was 5th in Putts Per Round, 4th in Putts Per Greens In Regulation, and 11th in Greens In Regulation.  Turnesa got it done, and actually jumped from 138th to 75th on the Money List, now over $1.3 million in earnings for the season.  Of course, his money position won't matter again until 2011, but it's still an interesting stat.  He may take the rest of the fall off, even though he is enrolled in the next few tournaments; so we'll keep you posted.

Silver

Michael Allen - The youngster made a huge move this week.  He shot 63-69-64-70 (-22) to finish in a T-3rd.  Not only was that easily his best finish on the season, he also moved from 135th on the Money list to 117th; which almost guaranteed him a card next year.  Allen did it slightly differently from Turnesa, as in, he hit fairways and hit greens.  Had he putted better or drove further, maybe he would have won; but he still did pretty well.  He was T-1st in Driving Accuracy and T-4th in Greens In Regulation.  So, despite his T-46th in Driving Distance, T-36th in Putts Per Round and T-32nd in Putts Per Greens In Regulation; he still did enough (more than enough) to finish strong.  We'll see if he can get himself another high cash in the rest of the Fall Series to solidify his position even more.

Bronze

Brad Adamonis - The Rhode Islander made his way (finally) back near the top of the leaderboard and also (finally) may have secured his card for 2009 as a result.  Adamonis shot 67-65-66-71 (-19) to finish in a T-10th, six shots off the lead.  Adamonis, unlike the other two on this list, really scuffled around and got a little lucky to get to -19, and tried his best to blow it on Sunday, but he still got himself an important top-10 finish.  He was T-47th in Driving Accuracy, T-36th in Driving Distance, T-49th in Putts Per Round, T-37th in Putts Per Greens In Regulation; but he was 7th in Greens In Regulation, and it was enough to move him from a tenuous 121st on the Money List to a much more secure 113th as a result.
