• PGA Top Tournament Performances: Valero Texas Open - The Resort Course at La Cantera Golf Club - San Antonio, TX

  It was a fun week of golf, with a lot of low scoring and close action. In the end, one player pulled away down the stretch and most of the top-25 was full of familiar names, especially familiar Texan names. It's interesting sometimes that regional knowledge of a course can mean a lot more than anyone realizes; and that usually seems to be the case in these "lesser" tournaments to a degree. As far as players improving on their money list spot; there weren't as many as you'd like... • PGA Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Valero Texas Open - The Resort Course at La Cantera Golf Club · San Antonio, TX

  As last week's course was a "bomber's delight", this week's course is the exact opposite. It's a 6,900 yd. course with dramatic elevation changes, limitless bunkers, split-level greens and water throughout much of the course. It's not a walk in the park, but the short distance of the course can lead to very low scoring. Justin Leonard won here last year with a score of -19. • PGA Weekly Sleepers: Fed Ex Cup Playoffs - Final Round - The Tour Championship - East Lake Golf Club - Atlanta, GA

  East Lake is a fun course for a lot of these players; and a perfect venue to conclude the FedEx Cup Playoffs at the Tour Championship. The only real issue this week will be if players start short-siding themselves on greens; or overcompensating and not having makeable scoring putts. Distance (or lack of) shouldn't be a huge problem, nor should trees, and nor should hitting greens. There's a bit of water around the course that comes into play; but nothing that usually makes a difference. It... • PGA Weekly Sleepers: FedEx Playoffs Round 3 - BMW Championship - Bellerive Country Club - St.Louis, MO

  Well folks, it's Round 3 of 4 for the FedEx Cup, and we move from Norton, MA, to St. Louis, MO. It's a Rees Jones-designed monster (at nearly 7,500 yds), and there are many folks who either want, or need to, make a huge move this week. The starts and sits have been determined; but in a selective field such as this one, is there really a true sleeper out there? Well, depending on your definition (and your ability to stretch said definition) of what a sleeper is; you just might find a few.... • PGA Weekly Sleepers: FedEx Cup Round 1 - The Barclays - Ridgewood Country Club - Paramus, NJ

  We spent most of Start 'Em Sit 'Em yesterday talking about what the course was like, and what we should look for. It's an exclusionary distance course, which means the shortest hitters in the field are going to be unable to compete. Other than that, I don't see too many "make or break" stats this week. The greens are going to be on the slow side (they measured 11.5 on the stimpmeter last week; and Paramus has had plenty of rain since then), so even putting shouldn't...   One Week before the PGA Championship and the PGA brings us another split field this week; so being that all Fantasy Golf leagues are different, I'll try not to lose sight of that. • PGA Weekly Sleepers: The Open Championship - The Royal Birkdale Golf Club - Southport, England

  As in any Major tournament, "sleepers" are tough to come by. People in the tournament are either past Major winners, or earned their way in, so they all "deserve" to be there. Therefore, coming up with a true sleeper is difficult. It comes down to some basic questions. How will the course affect the players? Whose game fits this course the best?   And you thought the Travelers' Championship was a low-scoring tournament? This week, The Buick Open at Warwick Hills has been one of the top three lowest scoring tournaments for decades, and probably back to the inception of the tournament in 1958. • PGA Start 'Em Sit 'Em: U.S. Open - Torrey Pines Golf Club South - La Jolla, CA

  It's U.S. Open week, typically the most unfair and ridiculous test of golf on Tour year after year. You have to play ridiculously well just to sniff par, and the fairways are as long as the greens are fast. This year at Torrey Pines is no exception, and at 7,541 yds, it's the longest U.S. Open in history, and it's only a Par-71. • PGA Top Tournament Performances: Stanford St. Jude Championship - TPC Southwind - Memphis, TN

  TPC Southwind proved to be more of a bear of a course than I think anyone realized, and it made for so relatively high scores as well as an exciting finish. This week's top-25 is a veritable who's who of "Where the heck has this guy been" guys, and proved once again that the more we think we know about golf, the less we actually DO know about golf. • PGA Weekly Sleepers: Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial - Colonial Country Club - Ft. Worth, TX

  So I was playing Tiger Woods 2004 on my computer last night (I know, way to update, right?) and it just so happened one of the courses I played was Colonial. Now, as you're well aware, these courses aren't 100% replicated renderings, but they're awfully close; and I realized one thing that I had forgotten yesterday. • PGA Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: EDS Byron Nelson Championship - TPC Four Seasons Las Colinas- Irving, TX

  The TPC Four Seasons underwent a massive overhaul since the last Tournament there (won by Scott Verplank). The re-construction project cost about $10 million and took until just a few weeks ago (after all the grasses grew) until it was ready to go.   If you're anything like me, you can hear the piano music and Jim Nantz saying "A Tradition unlike any other" this week. This is Golf's Super Bowl and World Series all rolled into one in the most prestigious and high-profile tournament of the year. • PGA Start 'Em Sit 'Em: Shell Houston Open - Redstone Golf Club - Humble, TX

  For the first time in my memory, the week before the Masters doesn't include the BellSouth Classic in Georgia, the traditional tune-up tournament for the Masters. No, unfortunately the PGA has eschewed tradition for a pay day again, and shuffled the schedule to get the Shell Houston Open to be played at this spot instead.
